AcSIR School of Oceanography

The School of Oceanography under the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) was inaugurated on 8th August 2011. The aim of the school is to offer basic courses in ocean science, mathematics, and other subjects essential for conducting innovative research in oceanography for the students admitted to AcSIR-Ph.D. program. As the oceanographic research is highly multidisciplinary science requiring integration of hydrosphere-atmosphere-geosphere-biosphere for a comprehensive understanding of the marine processes and formation of various living and non-living resources. To achieve this the students are required to be familiar with system science rather than studying different branches in isolation. Therefore, the School of Oceanography has developed a multidisciplinary course work of around 30 credits to be completed in two semesters before the admitted students begin to pursue their Ph.D. thesis. The school has over 50 faculty members and the students have access to NIO's Library, computing facility and laboratories.
