POGO-SCOR Fellowship to two NIO staff
POGO-SCOR shortlisted two of the NIO staff - Dr. Siby Kurian (Scientist, Chemical Oceanography) and Ms. Nisha Kurian (Senior Research Fellow, working with Dr. V.V. Gopalakrishna, a senior Scientist in Physical Oceanography) - for the award of fellowships this year 2010.

POGO has developed an extensive array of training and education activities targeted primarily at scientists from developing countries and those with economies in transition. This is in partnership with the member countries and has paid large dividends in training and capacity building.

Dr. Siby will be working on studies on photosynthetic pigments in the Arabian Sea with special emphasis on OMZ and also have hands on HPLC-MS. She will be working at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), Massachusetts, US under the guidance of Dr. Daniel Repeta during September - November, 2010. Whereas Ms. Nisha will be working on data management of oceanographic observations, quality assurance of data, and interpretation of results of analysis in a regional/global climatic context at the National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC), Washington DC under the guidance of Dr. Tim Boyer during October, 2010- January, 2011.

Thanks to POGO for consideration of two fellowships. Congratulations to the Colleagues who could secure these. Visit www.nio.org > Research > Researchers > (search for 'kurian, s.' and 'nisha') for their biodata.
