Dr SSC Shenoi elected as Fellow of IAS
Dr. SSC Shenoi, a Senior Scientist of NIO, has been elected to the Fellowship of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. He received communications from the President and Secretaries of the Academy on his election this morning. The Indian Academy of Sciences was founded and registered as a society in 1934 with the aim to promote the progress and uphold the cause of science, both in pure and applied branches. The Academy strives to meet the objectives through original research and dissemination of scientific knowledge to the community via meetings, discussions, seminars, symposia and publications. The academy currently publishes 11 journals on different subjects. The eleventh entitled 'Resonance' was started in 1996 to promote science education in the country. Not more than 35 Fellows are elected each year and therefore this recognition is prestigious. Dr. Shenoi has contributed significantly to the understanding of physical oceanography of the waters around India during the last two decades. His work particularly stands out in the areas of study of processes internal to the ocean that influence Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and hence to coupling between the monsoon and the ocean, development and validation of SST retrieval algorithms using satellite data and description of the system of coastal circulation around India. His contributions can be seen from his 50 research publications in various journals and other sources. Congratulations to Dr Shenoi.
