   Scientists of NIO attend AOGS  
Scientists of NIO attend AOGS The recently concluded 5th AOGS (Asia-Oceania Geosciences Society) 2008 held at Busan, South Korea during 16-20 June 2008 was attended by a large team of scientists (12) from NIO, viz, Drs S. Prasanna Kumar, P. Vethamony, P.M. Muralidharan, M.T. Babu, Jayu Narvekar, Mangesh Gauns, N. Ramaiah, P.V. Shirodkar, K.A. Kamesh Raju, B. Nagendranath, J.N. Pattan and Ray Durbar. The AOGS consisted of 7 Sections (Solid Earth, Solar Terrestrial, Hydrological Science, Atmospheric Science, Ocean Science, Planetary Science, Interdisciplinary Working groups). Each of these Sections comprised of several sessions. While section Ocean Science (OS) was of major concern to the NIO's scientists, other were also of interest. NIO's scientists, for the first time, had an opportunity to be one of the convenors of three sessions: - OS14 - Differential responses of the marginal seas (Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, South China Sea, Java Sea, etc) to the Asian Monsoon and climate change (Dr. S. Prasanna Kumar), - OS05 - Coastal processes and pollutant transport in macro-tidal regimes (Dr. P Vethamony), and - SE72 - Recent multidisciplinary studies of mid-ocean-ridges and ophiolites (K.A. Kamesh Raju)

The team returned India after conclusion of AOGS.
