   Administrative building for NIO
The main building of National Institute of Oceanography, Goa was commissioned in 1976. Being a small laboratory at that time, with limited staff, it was an ideal laboratory building. A wing to this building was added to this main building during early eighties as ‘Phase II’ construction as the number of staff increased. Since then the institute’s activities have grown multi-fold. The Institute recently completed the construction of the extension of the Biology wing. The construction of  ‘Administrative Building’ opening up over 1800 sq.m. has now been taken up. The groundbreaking ceremony had taken place at the hands of Dr. Shetye, Director of NIO. This will house Administration, Accounts, Bills, and Stores & Purchase Sections. Currently, these sections are spread over available places within the campus. Bringing all these activities under one roof with required facilities, like record room, conference room, stores godowns, etc, will increase better interaction, coordination and thereby efficiency. Over 1100 sq.m. area then vacated by these sections, once the building is ready, would be allocated to the laboratories and scientific and technical staff. The new building would get ready by mid-2012. Architect's impression of this building is in the picture below.
