NIO in Press
NIO outnumbers its previous research productivity records
Research productivity is measured using different parameters. Publications in the standard refereed journals is considered as one of the quality indicator. These journals quality is measured by a tool called 'Impact Factor'. As a quick/first measure of research productivity, this tool is often used to understand the research productivity of a research laboratory, though some schools of thought do not believe this as a parameter.
If we go by this parameter, the Total Impact Factor (TIF) of all papers published by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) during last year 2011, the research productivity jumped to a new high crossing 340 points - never before in its past record.
So is the case about the number of publications. During 2011, authors from NIO participated in over 185 papers. Consistant efforts of the researchers at NIO backed up by the students assisting them in the research projects and undergoing their doctoral studies is one of the important reasons for such an achievement.
