Rajiv Nigam delivers Dr. H.N. Siddique Memorial Lecture at IGU convention

2Memorial Lecture for this year (2012).
Instituted in 2001, the IGU invites eminent earth/ocean scientist to deliver a special lecture on a topic of current scientific interest. So far three of the NIO Scientists of past had received this honour of delivering the lecture. The invited scientist is presented with a Gold Medal and a citation. Dr. V.P. Dimri, President, IGU, honoured Dr. Nigam.
Dr. Nigam spoke on "Reconstruction of past climates through microfossils with special reference to foraminifera" during 49th annual convention of IGU scheduled during 29 to 31 October 2012 at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He explained, with examples from Indian waters, how microfossils (Foraminifera and Otoliths) are useful in reconstruction of paleo-sea levels, paleo-monsoons, paleo-tsunamis and paleo-fisheries. The presentation also included the application of such studies in the field of marine archeology and climate change.
