CSIR-NIO & KUFOS sign MOU for research on oceanography and fisheries
CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) with its Regional centre in Kochi and Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) for long term collaboration in the areas of education and research in Physical Oceanography, Marine Biology, Marine Chemistry, Marine Biotechnology, Microbiology and related technical areas through this written understanding.
Under the MOU, it is proposed
1. To undertake joint research programmes of mutual interest in the areas of Physical Oceanography, Marine Biology, Marine Biotechnology and Microbiology
2. To offer Ph.D programmes in the identified areas
3. To facilitate the usage of library and laboratory facilities available in KUFOS and NIO-RCK
During the ceremony for signing the MOU, VC of KUFOS Prof. A. Ramachandran emphasized that KUFOS had the unique advantage of combining oceanography and fisheries and that they are forging collaborations with different research
Dr. S. Prasanna Kumar, Director, NIO highlighted that this is a historic moment and handshake between research and academic organisations is essential in order to create trained manpower for oceanographic research.
Dr. T. Pankajakshan, Scientist-in Charge, NIO regional centre in Kochi mentioned that the centre has state of the art facilities to carry out research in various discipline of oceanography and
welcomed the students from KUFOS to make use of the facilities.
