START Fellowship to Pratima Kessarkar
Dr Pratima Kessarkar is in the news again! Recently her work fetched INSA Medal for Young Scientists for her. Another news reached to the shore that she has been awarded START Fellowship. The START (a made-up acronym for 'global change SysTem for Analysis, Research and Training') Fellowship/Visiting Scientist Program is intended to increase the number of developing country scientists who contribute to global change research within the frameworks of START's sponsoring programs, International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), and the International Human Dimensions Programme on global environmental change (IHDP). This Fellowship is offered to young scientists from Africa, Asia, and Oceania (under 35 years of age at the time of application). START Fellows collaborate with senior mentors in leading laboratories or institutions in any part of the world, where research is being conducted on relevant regional aspects of global change. The duration of these fellowships is typically 4-8 months. A desired outcome is a publication in a peer-reviewed journal and/or development and submission of a research proposal. Currently, the START Fellowship/Visiting Scientist Award program is supported through funding from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She plans to work with Prof. Allan Chivas, at University of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. We look forward she returning with good number of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Congratulations to Pratima.
