Dwijesh Ray receives French Fellowship
Shri Dwijesh Ray has been awarded the French Sandwich Ph.D. fellowship for the academic year 2006-07. He plans to use this to work at IPGP-Marine Geosciences Laboratory, Paris for six months (September 2006-Feb, 2007) with Dr. Catherine Mevel and her group on Stable isotope studies (mainly H and O isotope) of silicate rocks. Besides learning very sophisticated techniques, the isotopes - as tracers - will help him in determining the nature of interacting fluid responsible for seawater-rock interactions at a particular temperature. This opportunity will also help him in comparing his results with other oceanic ridge systems (especially the SWIR where French researchers are presently working) to have a better understanding of the large-scale oceanic processes. He is at present pursuing research under doctoral programmes under the supervision of Dr. R. Banerjee on Petrology of Central Indian Ridge Rocks. While doing so, he learnt petrological data processing and interpretation, which, he adds, will bring out some interesting results very soon. He also acquired knowledge in handling different analytical instruments like XRF, EPMA, SEM-EDS, ICP-MS and TIMS. Dwijesh has, so far, published four papers and a recipient of outstanding student award for best poster presentation in InterRidge Workshop held at NIO in January 2005.
