Indian climate and phytoplankton variability

  Project Leader:
Matondkar, S.G.P.

Objectives:

The main objective of the project is to monitor phytoplankton (biomass, productivity and diversity) in coastal and offshore region of the Arabian Sea. Since phytoplankton responds to climatic changes quickly, this study will help to probe remote and local control on phytoplankton productivity. The data generated by IRS – P4 –II by 2007 onwards, will also help to achieve these objectives. The other objectives are

  1. Examine response of phytoplankton to mixed layer depth and ultimately monsoon forcing.
  2. Seasonality of phytoplankton biomass, production and diversity in the coastal water along West Coast of India.
