Specialization:
(a) Marine Minerals exploration, (b) Continental Margin & EEZ investigation, (c) Coastal Ecosystem Management

Research

  • Publications- Books authored- 02, Edited: 01, Papers Published in SCI journal around three dozens
Mentoring- Part-time teaching at PG level in Goa University. Guiding PhD, MSc students.

  • Past Projects-
    • Exploring Polymetallic Nodules in the Indian Ocean (1982-1996
    • InRidge (1997-2002) Initiating Mid ocean ridge research in India
  • Present Project:
    • Investigation of the continental Margin and EEZ

  • Conceived for Future Involvement
    1. WIOPET Petrotectonic of the western Indian Ocean
    2. Designing Vulnerability Index for Coastal region (ongoing)

Crux Findings

  • Modeled dynamics of nodule formation and growth in the Indian Ocean.
  • Deciphered emplacement tectonics, inconsistent growth and eruption style of seamounts
  • Proposed secondary eruption theory and enlargement of ancient seamounts.

Management

  • Director (2002-04) of Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI), MAURITIUS. Appointed after a global selection. Devised Developmental and Operational Road-map for MOI, and mechanism for performance assessment, Helped initiate several projects on marine resources of Mauritius. Brought in international visibility and recognition to MOI.
  • At NIO, as Deputy (2003 onwards) and Assistant Director (1993-2003) of NIO, helped in manpower development, designing Performance indexes, formulating science policy, helping staff grievance redresses. These changes were the direct results of a SWOT analysis made by me in January 1995 on Organisational Climate in NIO.
  • At CSIR level, I helped form the CLIFF (CSIR Leadership for Innovation and Future Framework) - a leaders’ Think tank-cum-Change agent. It aims to improve the performance, relevance and influence of the CSIR.
