  • Onboard training received on ORV Sagar Kanya acoustical equipment during II trial cruise (Travemunde, Germany- Malta) from German Scientist, 1993.
  • Paper entitled 'Coaxial circular array for underwater application- A critical appraisal of its effectiveness' was selected for presentation in 6th Young Physicist Colloquim of Indian Physical Society during the year 1988 at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics. Above paper was selected among twelve papers out of forty four papers.
  •  Paper entitled 'Coaxial circular array- Studies related to side-lobe suppressed beampatterns for underwater transducer application' published in Proc. IEEE, 76 (10), pp. 1374-1376 (1988) was considered CSIR best technological paper for the year 1988 (CSIR Research output 1988- A bibliometric analysis Sept., 1989.

  • European Commission / Department of Science and awarded one year Marie Curie Post Doctoral Fellowship for the year 1994 to carry out research work at Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research.   • Participated in Antarctica Expedition (ANT 11/4) on German Research Vessel RV Polarstern in 1994.
  • Participated in Ist trial cruise of multi-beam Hydrosweep based side scan sonar in Azores (Germany- Sao Miguel, Portugal) during November, 1994.
  •  Recognized Ph.D guide at Goa University.
  • Spent about 800 days at sea on various Indian and Foreign research vessel, and coastal research including short ONGC's project at Bombay High.
  • Supervised many student projects, which includes M.Tech, B.E., and M.Sc. projects.
  • Several papers were reviewed for Journal of the Acoustical Society of America and Indian journals; IEEE Transactions, Academy Proceedings : Earth and Planetary Sciences. Also, acoustic-based dissertations were reviewed for IIT, Madras and reviewed Ph.D. Thesis from CUSAT.
  • Reviewed a book with Dr. Desa, Director, NIO, on Principles of Electroacoustic Transducer Technology, NIOT, 2001 by Dr D. Srinivasan and Dhilsa.
  • A paper based on above research, entitled 'Sea bottom classification using multi-beam echo-sounder: An artificial neural network application', carried out by B.E. Electronics students under the guidance of Dr. Chakraborty won the First Prize at the 9th IETE Technical National Contest 2001 [IETE newsletter, vol 3, no.5, p. 3, Sept-Oct 2001] (80 papers were submitted and five were selected for presentation, prizes were declared at the IISc, Bangalore).
  • Invited to carry out multi-beam research at Alfred Wegener, Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Bremerhaven, Germany (for 4 months) as a visiting scientist (09 Sept. 2002- 31 Dec. 02).
  • Invited to deliver a talk during the multibeam workshop at Geo Mar, Kiel University, Germany on 11 Oct. 2002. Total fifty-five participants from twelve countries were attended the workshop and six speakers were invited.
  • Invited to deliver a talk during the National Symposium on Acoustics - 2005 at NAL. Also delivered invited talk during the meetings of MIRC - Acoustical Society of America.
  • Co-chaired a session on 'Applications on Machine Learnings in Ocean Engineering' during IEEE Asia Pacific - Ocean 06 at Singapore. Also chaired many sessions on Underwater Acoustics and Acoustical Oceanography during the meetings of MIRC - ASA.
  • Successfully completed Department of Information Technology funded project on Seafloor Classification System.
  • Chaired a Techanical Committee to procure oceanographic instruments for NIOT Technology demonstration research vessel RV Sagar Nidhi - 2006
