The regional centre at Visakhapatnam was set up in 1976 and accommodated in the campus of Andhra University. The Centre is responsible for the research programmes pertaining to East coast of India and Bay of Bengal with special emphasis on Marine Geophysics. Besides geological and geophysical surveys in the near shore regions, the Centre also has contributed to the offshore placer deposits. It has covered entire Bengal Fan region and identified major structural features having relation with hydrocarbon deposits. The Centre has developed capability to monitor pollution and conduct environmental impact assessment related studies. |
