CRV Sagar Sukti ( 2001 - 2012 )

A coastal research vessel, converted by acquiring a fishing trawler built 1990 by M/s Hooghly Dock & Port Engineers Limited (HDPEL) Howrah, West Bengal, India and owned by NIO with refit in 2001 by Dempo Shipbuilding & Engineering Ltd, Goa. Since then she had undertaken 214 cruises for various oceanographic research and survey programmes in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Though the vessel had limitations in terms of endurance (max. 10 days) and berths (8 participants besides crew), Sagar Sukti served the institute exemplarily during the last decade (2001-11), when NIO was not having any other vessel at its disposal. The long list of publications resulted from the data and samples acquired using Sagar Sukti underlines how the institute was depending on Sagar Sukti during that period. The vessel was decommissioned and handed over to the buyer on 11th December 2012 at Old Goa jetty.
